The F 900 R is a really awesome street bike that’s totally packed with features and available for a really affordable price. It’s basically as well-featured as the S 1000 R, but with about 2/3 the power, and half the cylinders. I love that the RSV4 has cruise — but usually, smaller bikes don’t get all the same technology the big ones do. I’ve included this at the end — motorcycles that surprisingly don’t have cruise.

As I got out of town and onto roads where I could safely engage the system to try it out I was caught by surprise when a red indicator light appeared beside the ON button after pushing it. For whatever reason, the red color made me think something was wrong or not working because I didn’t remember reading anything about it in the instructions to indicate that was normal. My plan was just to ride a big lap around the outskirts of the city I live in, lasting about 25 minutes and allowing me to adequately test the MCCruise at a variety of speeds, and on differing terrain.

But being an upright touring bike, that’s a less surprising bike on which to have cruise. The CFMOTO 700CL-X (especially the 700CL-X Sport, with clip-on handlebars and Brembo M50 brakes) is definitely one of the coolest and cheapest motorcycles that come stock with cruise control. Note that cruise isn’t standard in every market — it’s not standard in Australia, for example. This is a valid concern if you’re really bothered with keeping one speed over vast distances and different terrain. You might be concerned with this if you’re riding a large cruiser or adventure tourer, like a Gold Wing (which has cruise, anyway). But because riding a motorcycle is often more intense, tiring, and high-risk an experience than driving a car, cruise control can be even more useful. Foremost, make sure the cruise control system you’ve got your eyes on is compatible with your motorcycle’s make and model.
One complaint about the cruise on the Africa Twin is that the controls are on the right-hand side. This means you have to set cruise with the same hand that’s adjusting the throttle. This can be more fiddly than setting the cruise with the left hand, like nearly every other motorcycle. But with a 150+ hp engine that likes to rev and genuine corner clearance, the XDiavel was never really a direct competitor to Harley-Davidson or various Japanese metric cruisers. It’s definitely in “muscle cruiser” territory — a comfortable sportbike, or a scary fast cruiser. Nobody would be surprised to find out big tourers like the K 1600 GTL or R 1250 RT have cruise.
However, it cannot increase or decrease the said speed since it does not come with any sensor. Motorcycles have had cruise control since 2021 (although official announcements about the feature have broken out as early as 2018). The system is currently offered in high-end production models, but there are plans to make it standard in mid-class motorcycles in the near future. Cruise control is best suited for long drives on large, straight roads such as an interstate highway with cars traveling at a relatively constant speed.
The Top Kit was designed for motorcycles with certain interferences. Most riders will be using the Bottom Kit, but some will need the Top Kit. That’s going to save me a pile of money and let me keep a bike that I’ll now really enjoy a lot more on long rides. I wanted to make sure my bike was totally ready to go for riding season. My point in telling you this is that the kit wasn’t difficult to install, just a little time-consuming.
